
Scholarship Description
The PhD work is associated with an NHMRC funded trial aimed at improving diabetes care in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations. The work is in collaboration with Baker IDI. It will involve working with a number of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). The PhD component of the work will be primarily based in Newcastle and could include an exploration of: • variations in diabetes screening and care, • ACCHO staff views about methods for improving diabetes screening and care • barriers to and triggers for change in ACCHO health care practices. There will be opportunity for the PhD scholar to develop and shape the research agenda in association with the PhD supervisors. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scholars are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant may be required to complete cultural competency training.

This scholarship is offered once only to one person. Open for applications from June 30, 2010 until July 16, 2010.
Payment Information
The value of this scholarship is AUD26000 (maximum per annum). This award is to be used for living expenses. This scholarship is paid fortnightly for the period of 3 years.
Research Information
This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: Public health and health services. It is required that your study starts no earlier than July 31, 2010 and no later than October 31, 2010.
Eligibility
This scholarship is for study in Australia for those who have achieved Honours 1 or equivalent. Only citizens of Australia or permanent residents can apply.
